ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENT: ALGAE // Collaboration with Vicky Chen, Jae Ho Park, Yuxin Chen, Eda Begum Birol, Geena Kribs, Yimeng Zhu, & Yuejia Yang Semester IV // Professor Rychiee Espinosa An installation to show the potentials of materials, fabrication techniques, and vessels/skins to hold and sustain the growth of the nutrient-dense, energy-rich resource: algae. This hypothesized photosynthetic building skin uses tubes to hold Spirulina, a cyanobacteria. This living skin activates algae as a material to shape space, filter sunlight, supply nutrients, and absorb atmospheric carbon dioxide.
