Installation @ Gimme Coffee // North Cayuga St, Ithaca, NY Spring 2018 // Independent project // Advisor: Roberto Bertoia A paper cup is used for a couple of minutes -- but it will never be recycled. We live in a throw-away society where most things we consume are made to be disposed rather than valued as part of the earth’s finite resources. Disposable cups are a composite of paper and plastic. In this work, I have re-imagined the life of the otherwise landfill-bound object. I separated the paper and the plastic of this “waste,” transformed them, and reunited them. The materials are almost unrecognizable but when combined create a slightly uneasy relationship originating from the initial cup.
