MVRDV’s Mirador project utilizes courtyard buildings surrounding their site to generate their elevation. Using the same logic, our building’s massing reflects the surrounding NYCHA plans, which is subdivided into unique neighborhoods compromised a variety of units. The carving of mass for light-filled spaces continues beyond the building, weaving community throughout Red Hook and connecting disparate parts of the neighborhood. Unused industrial buildings are injected with community-based programs. Vacant lots are in-filled with modular, pre-fab food-growing pods. All southern facades are used for food growing, yielding 300 meals per day.
