Corrugations: Light & Form
MUSEUM // Material Study // Madrid, Spain Studio III // Professor Inaqui Carnicero Corrugations of cardboard are oriented such that in one direction, light can pass through, and the other direction, the light is blocked. Using the geometry of the circle so as to view the spectrum of the corrugations, lanterns were created to emphasize the effects of light. In a house for a workaholic & alcoholic, the scheme was refined, utilizing rotating walls to adapt to the lifestyles of the two distinct individuals from sunrise to late nights as the light shifts around the structure. The studio culminated in a museum of movement and dance situated in the medieval trace of Madrid, elevated above the ground by inverted structural domes providing light. The semi-spheres create exciting programmatic courtyards used for everyday city life & public performances. The accessible roof offers a sculpture garden, running track, & patios for public dance classes & performances.
